Temple of Abu Simbel

Temple of Abu Simbel

Two temples were built by Ramesses II at Abu Simbel. The first large temple was built in honor of the gods Ptah, Amen-Re and Re-Harakhte as well as Ramesses II. The temple was in danger of being flooded with the building of the Awan Dam. Over 40 million dollars was raised to move the Temple to an artificial cliff built over 200 feet above the original site. It took over four and a half years to move this temple.
